Bands I Like Cover Songs I’ve Never Heard
Posted by pixie | Filed under Uncategorized
Here’s a mini post to let you know you can hear a couple of random covers:
Jamies Elsewhere covered “Love In The Club” by Usher — it’s on myspace.
And Fall Out Boy covered “It Don’t Matter” by Akon — it’s here.
I don’t remember why, but I know Akon used to make me laugh on the site-that-shall-not-be-mentioned. Couldn’t have been that funny, since I don’t remember. These covers? Not so sure.
Jamies Elsewhere remain my favorite new band of 2008, and have a solid top 5 spot on the “best album” list, for the record.

There are two reasons we used to joke about Akon. One was the video of him throwing some kid off the stage in Poughkeepsie, the other was when he bought a diamond mine in Africa. He also once said he likes to drive the ghetto around blasting Creed, and that song (Don’t Matter) is a straight rip-off of R. Kelly - which gives him a direct link to the two funniest musicians ever.
Hahhaha… you told me this when we had dinner last week….
but reading this now, I still think a dude buying a diamond mine is fucking hilarious. Did the other guys find that as funny as we did? Or was that a “pixie is an asshole and Tom is uncomfortable” moment?
We should write about Akon in the book.
I really hope that Patrick never, ever does that.
Ever again.
Oh FOB, you’re scaring me.
Hmm. I like both those bands, and hate both those songs by the original artist. Why are all these great bands covering bad songs lately?! I feel all broken and music-less. (I’m writing this while listening to a rap mash-up cover deal by Holiday Parade, another great band with a bad cover)It’s either this situation, or bad bands covering and ruining good songs.
Still.
It’s new music. And for that, I give them credit and large amounts of praise, even though it won’t make me listen to Akon.
