About

Emo, Punk, and Beyond rose from the ashes of the dearly departed Shoutmouth.com. I, pixie, had no say in that matter, as it was run by a business. Rather than sit around and be miserable, I launched a new site to carry on the community and have a place to write about what matters most to me, music. My best friend Heather made the site happen — and still does, because without her, it would be broken every other day when I tried to put a link up or add a photo. I’m a writer, not a tech person!

When I was young, there were few things that appealed to me. The two main ones were writing and music. The day I realized people could write about music for their jobs, I set my goals. For the year or so that I was a music writer for a living, it was amazing. But life ebbs and flows, and for now, I do this site as nothing more than a labor of love and a way to keep the community growing.

I try to update as often as possible, but I have a full-time day job as a writer, and believe it or not, there are nights where writing is the furthest thing from my mind. Things should settle down now that I have moved out of the slum I was living in for the past year and made other positive changes in my life. Of course, that’s more than you need to know.

Some of the bands loved by Emo, Punk, and Beyond include: My Chemical Romance, Say Anything, Fall Out Boy, Our Last Night, Pistolita, Weatherbox, Aiden, I Am Ghost, Kill Hannah, JJ72, Muse, Of Montreal, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah!, Silverstein, Hawthorne Heights, Schoolyard Heroes, Concerto For Constantine, Nightbeast, Four Letter Lie, Four Year Strong, Sirens Sister, Vendetta Red, Bad Religion, Tiger Army, A Thorn For Every Heart, The Killers, Innerpartysystem, Placebo, AFI, Blaqk Audio, HorrorPops, The Oohlahs, GWAR, The Lawrence Arms, A Wilhelm Scream, Sky Eats Airplane, Enter Shakiri, Drop Dead Gorgeous, Midtown, Cobra Starshp, Manchester Orchestra, It Dies Today, Interpol, Idlewild, A Skylit Drive, Misfits, Ramones, Saves The Day, Rise Against, Scary Kids Scaring Kids, From First To Last, The Strokes, Tokyo Rose, Forever The Sickest Kids, Leathermouth, August Burns Red, Bayside, Tokyo Police Club, Blitzkid, Cancerslug, Bullet For My Valentine, Chiodos, All Time Low, Alkaline Trio, Thursday, Circa Survive, Horrorpops, Across Five Aprils, Coheed And Cambria, Dance Gavin Dance, Jamies Elsewhere, and about a million others. Of note: it seems the one band everyone who reads the site [even the trolls!] likes is… Iron Maiden. I would like to research the Iron Maiden phenomena at some point, but for now, let’s just accept it for what it is.

Pixie! I loved your commentary and insight on Shoutmouth. So sad to see it come to an end but darn glad you still have an outlet :)

Rose: Unfortunately, I don’t have a copy of that, either… I didn’t get to save that and it’s not in any of the hidden files on the site. :/
