EPB Site Darling Max Bemis is… Working on New Say Anything Songs

Oh, hi. Did you hear that sort of high-pitched squaling sound just now? That was me, upon discovering that Max is heading off to write a new album. The death moan was releated to the closing of the Song Shop, as I missed the cut off every time and didn’t get to have my own personal Max song.

Here’s what our boy had to say:

Hi guys…Max here. lot of say anything announcements coming soon, but i just wanted everyone to know we have now completed about 120 song shop songs! thank you so much for everyone for being involved with the project. however, its coming time to work on a new say anything record, so i have to delay song shop for a while. there are a few people who have paid for songs but haven’t received them yet. we appreciate you buying a song so much and WILL deliver you one as soon as possible, but i have to work on the record now.

120 songs. He wrote 120 songs for people. The vexing part is that means there are 118 Max songs floating around out there that I do not have [I managed to snag two of the Song Shop songs — and they’re amazing. Does anyone have links/copies of any others?]

This leaves me wondering what the status of the Two Tongues album is [earlier this year, word was it would be along by the end of the year and there would also be a tour — but I figured when XO announced theirs and there was no news on Two Tongues, that was off the table.] Are we meant to suffer with just one Two Tongues song?

I guess it doesn’t matter because we’ll most likely be seeing a new Say Anything album in 2009 [meaning nobody else should bother attempting to make it to #1 for the year, because we already know who has that locked down.]

Oh, Max. I, for one, can not wait for new songs from Say Anything, especially since the live videos someone caught over the summer were pretty amazing. For those who missed them:

I will end this post saying that Max Bemis is probably the perfect man and I would like if someone would deliver one to my new house. I even have an extra bedroom, so he’d be able to escape my clutches from time to time, I swear. Christmas is coming, he’d make a nice gift.

One of the Stranger FOB Things to Happen in a While

Yesterday, the band released their video for “I Don’t Care” via iTunes. I’m not sure why, considering it’s hard enough to get people to buy music at this point in time — I know I’m not at a place where I am going to start paying for videos, especially since they have been free my whole life [excluding the price of MTV/Fuse before they were a reality tv and movie channel, respectively.]

Anyway, one one of Pete’s 1,000 blogs, ahomeboyslife, this post turned up last night:

this will probably end up deleted either by me or someone else but the version of the video that we worked on night after night is not the version that aired. yet somehow a cut full of glorious camera phone shots did. just to let you know. it doesnt make any sense to us. that bag of money is being donated straight to a cause far more worthy.

imagine seeing this edit only after you buy the video off of i-tunes and realizing that noone even had the balls to call you and tell you they were changing the video and cutting parts.

id recommend viewing the video on a site that it doesnt cost you any money as this is NOT the edit the band approved.

Well, that’s a new one.

Glad I did just that on my own [like I said, videos aren’t something that have ever cost money in my lifetime.] The video isn’t bad, and I didn’t notice all this product placement, but hey….

And as it turns out, the blog is gone today — replaced with:

Lucky for us [I suppose] and sucky for people who want things to go away at some point [either Pete or the powers-that-be] nothing ever disappears from the Internet. Ever. Especially if it involves famous people or controversial things or politicians.

Of course, with all the wacky “viral” stuff concerning the band now [I’m somewhat less interested now that I have heard the first song [it is vaguely growing on me, maybe I have a brain slug] and it’s more of the Fresh Only Bakery stuff than the Citizens for our Betterment stuff] this could just be another aspect of whatever the hell they’re doing over there — they have been known to put messages in cell phones in videos [see The Academy Is…] and maybe there’s some code in there somewhere.

I’ll get back to you on that if I discover anything. Because this is the sort of thing I do these days.

There is only one thing I would like more than this at the moment… and since that is constantly in the back of my mind, percolating, I’ll take these videos of Max Bemis playing acoustic versions of two new Say Anything songs.

The first one is called “Loathing” and from what I can make of the lyrics, it has about 15 quotable lines, particularly if you are sad and lonely in the way that Max seems to be able to perfectly explain. I definitely feel it, anyway:

The second one is “Cemetery,” and there is some supreme Max adorableness in this video that I won’t ruin for the rest of you, who like me, adore the little things he does:

This song is going to be amazing with the full band.

Since there are no more Say Anything dates for the rest of the year, my OCD is compelling me to seek out Two Tongues dates [which are supposed to happen before the end of the year] so I can re-attempt “Operation: Meet Max Bemis [and Use the Awesome Pick-Up Line of ‘Im Over 18, Dude’.”

Also, these two new songs make me so sad that he announced he’d write a personalized, unique song for a mere $150… on the day I moved.  I would have paid that in a heartbeat, and even wrote out what I wanted my song to be about [I would have requested the title be “P.M.”] but I didn’t have the money. Hopefully, he’ll do it again. I’ll sell blood if I must, to get that song.

Anyway, I digress. Enjoy the new songs, because they’re quite good and pretty much guarantee the next Say Anything, supposedly out in 2009, will be album of the year for said year.  [I’m pretty sure that is the earliest prediction for album of the year I have ever made… and it could be weird if MCR roll something out that year… but I’m standing by it.]

New Reggie and the Full Effect Video

This one is too good to not post. It’s probably my favorite video since Every Time I Die’s “We’rewolf.” Anything that is the story of “Dracula’s bachelor party,” and features Frank Iero as Frankenstein is awesome by me. And the song, “J-Train”? It’s really good. I’m actually surprised because I don’t usually enjoy Reggie and the Full Effect, but this song is pretty rocking — especially the chorus. I can see this being a Fuse hit, and am pretty sure I am in need of the album now.

Okay, enough babbling from me — time to watch a cool video!

Eye on DeLonge: New Angels and Airwaves Video

If I ever had the chance to interview Tom DeLonge, which is unlikely, considering my history of writing about him in the way that I do, do you think he’d steal my soul? I don’t understand what it is about his eyes, but he needs to stop looking straight into the camera when he makes videos because it is frightening when he does it. I feel my soul being sucked out by his creepy black teddy bear eyes.

That said, “Breathe” is a really nice song. I like the lyrics and the sound of it.  Tommy D. has seemed to get his voice, which was quasi-irritating when he was in Blink-182, under control.

The most shocking thing about this video is the lack of pretentiousness. When I saw they’d posted a new video, I was like a cartoon wolf salivating at the thought of catching Bugs Bunny. “Finally! A chance to explore the pretentious nature of Mr. Tom DeLonge!,” I thought, and then he/the band went and hit me with a fairly standard video and a song I really liked.

I’m pretty sure this is the first time in my life I have been bummed out to like a song.

Cobra Starship Knows What Their Best Song Is

There is nothing I could write to make the video for the Spanish version of “Guilty Pleasure” any better than it is on its own. Seriously.

If every song by this band — regardless of what language they were in — sounded like this song, they’d be one of my favorite current bands.

I’m pretty sure they’re the most charming band around, regardless.

Get Your Shaking Sticks Ready for Coheed and Cambria News

Actually, it’s just two items of news, so it doesn’t officially qualify as more news than you can shake a stick at. So shake away.

Our first item is a new video from the band. This time, it’s for “Gravemakers and Gunslingers,” and while it isn’t the cinematic glory that is the video for “Feathers,” it’s nice. I’m actually kind of surprised this band doesn’t make more insanely epic videos, considering their music and aesthetic. Either way, I have never been one to complain about Coheed and Cambria goodness:

Meanwhile, Claudio Sanchez has unleashed Kill Audio,  which is part of the PopGun series. Claudio describes the comic strip as “a dark, comedic tale of a man growing annoyed with his own immortality.” Nice premise, and we know he can pull it off — so this is definitely one to watch.  The art and design is really amazing, too.

The band is currently on tour, and heading to Europe next month. After that, there are a few US dates. Is a headlining tour [they keep playing as support for bands I don’t like] too much to ask for? Maybe. Oh well. Enjoy!

New Video From The Cure

Oh, The Cure! Their new song, “The Only One,” is one of the most pleasing things I have heard in ages, if only because it reminds me of The Cure I have loved since I was about 13 years old. I was ready to write the band off as nothing more than nostalgia, and look what they went and did — they released a song that makes me swoon and fall in love with Robert Smith all over again.

Now, if only I could find tickets to the Radio City Music Hall show next month at a reasonable price, I’d be set.  Unfortunately, the vultures who snapped up all the tickets for resale seem to believe that crap seats are worth $100+ and good seats should sell for upwards of $600.  As much as I love this band… and want to see them with my awesome boyfriend… I really can’t see myself spending $1,200 so we can do it properly.

Anyway, enjoy this pretty black-and-white video and understand the glory of boys [okay, men…] in eyeliner.
