I think I have to reinstate my Pete Wentz “thing”

Posted by pixie | Filed under Uncategorized

I know, I know. I’ve repeatedly said I’ve moved on, Pete just doesn’t do it for me anymore, and I’m a 100% Max Bemis girl when it comes to my celebrity obsessions. Unfortunately for me, the band just released their video for the “Beat It” cover, and his hair and eye makeup reminded me why I liked him and his strangely gorgeous nose in the first place. *sigh*

Unfortunately, you have to go to MTV to watch it, but I didn’t have a terrible struggle with the site, so you should be okay. I checked my good friends at YouTube, but nobody was kind enough to upload it for my enjoyment just yet. That’s fine. I’ll get them someday. Wait, what?

Anyway, yes.  This is the new Fall Out Boy single, and it is definitely going to make the band bigger than ever before. And Pete looks so damned good in the video, I have been forced to call an audible and officially put him back on my celebrity crush list.

I tried, guys. I really did. My weaknesses include interesting noses, cute hair, and gobs of eyeliner. What can I say?

Say Anything on Conan O’Brien

Posted by pixie | Filed under Uncategorized

They played “Shiksa [Girlfriend]”:

I actually wanted to go see this live, but unlike in the good old days, you have to book Conan O’Brien tickets months in advance.  After seeing it, I’m not that bummed, considering how well I know this band sounds live — also known as “not like this.”  That studio has screwy sound or something, because they own this song live, normally.

I was going to go and wait for standby tickets, and then I realized I just don’t have what it takes to compete with fangirls half my age anymore.  So godspeed to you all, carry on the legacy as I would! Seriously, though: in 1997, I heard The Cure was playing Conan O’Brien’s show, called up the day before, and got tickets.  A lot of people did… Conan even joked he’d never seen so much black clothing in his audience. Those, my friends, were the halcyon days. Stalking bands was significantly easier than it is these days.

I’d also like to let you know that I did actually see this performance on TV, despite not setting my DV-R. Why? Because I have a boyfriend now [no way, no how] who is amazing and even though it was hours after I briefly angsted about missing this performance… remembered I wanted to see it, put the TV on channel 4, and even watched it with me — not once making fun of my taste in music.

You know how “they” say, “It’s the little things?”  Well, it is. Always remember that, guys.

A note on this blog: I’m in the middle of cleaning out, selling things, and have to get out of my current apartment in about a month, while working full time at my day job.  As such, updates will probably be sporadic for a month or so, and then I will really be back full force… with all that stress out of my life.

Cobra Starship Rocks The Covers on TRL

Posted by pixie | Filed under Uncategorized

I’m pretty sure you guys know that in my travels as a music ninja, I’ve picked up a healthy appreciation for cover songs. As such, I’m more than a bit pleased by Cobra Starship’s tuxedo-laden “TRL” performance [didn’t they cancel that show a year ago or something?]

Unfortunately, my good friends at YouTube just have a snippet of them doing OMD’s “If You Leave,” but they were kind enough to provide all of “Tainted Love, ” as well as my favorite dance song of last year, “Guilty Pleasure.”

Enjoy:

Say Anything Just Made My Day

Posted by pixie | Filed under Uncategorized

The beautiful thing about being me is, no matter how crappy my day may be, I can make a comeback pretty easily, so long as something appeals to me or pleases me. As such, Say Anything deciding to unleash the “Shiksa [Girlfriend]” video was enough to make up for a day I was about to write off as “wretched.” I mean, I still have to do laundry tonight… and I’m even kind of okay with that.

Because I am kind and benevolent, I shall share my video joy with you:

In other Say Anything news [because I am fountain of knowledge when it comes to these boys] the band will be playing a free show at Penn State on April 26th. And if you know anything about me, you know I am strongly considering going to this show. After all, the tour is wrapping up soon and since Alex Kent is going to be touring with his own band [admittedly briefly — May 8th-15th], chances are I should get in my Say Anything fix while I still can.

Alkaline Trio Announce Album Details; Plus Video of New Song

Posted by pixie | Filed under Uncategorized

Alkaline Trio has announced the details of their upcoming album, which will be called Agony and Irony.  After all their studio videos showing them putting the album together, it’s pretty much wrapped up and the band has chosen ten songs to make the final cut.  I wonder why it’s so short… but I’m really looking forward to hearing it.

The tracklisting is as follows:

01) Calling All Skeletons
02) Help Me
03) In Vein
04) Over And Out
05) I Found Away
06) Live Young, Die Fast
07) Four Four Four Four
08) Lost And Rendered
09) Ruin It
10) Into The Night

The first single off the album is “Help Me,” and here’s a video of the band playing it live.  It’s tough to judge because the sound quality isn’t 100%… but it sounds really different.  I’m sure I’ll end up liking it, because Alkaline Trio has never disappointed, but I’m pretty surprised to hear this song. I’m not even sure what it is that seems so different.  Maybe it’s just a grower.

Your thoughts?
